Basis 1 Port to 1 Port (BSS 1/1)
Also known as: bss 1/1, basis 1 port to 1 port, one port to one port, port to port basis
A contractual transport basis under which the carrier's responsibility extends only from one named port of loading to one named port of discharge.
BSS 1/1 defines a shipment that moves between a single loading port and a single discharge port. Under this basis, the carrier's responsibility is generally limited to the ocean transportation between those two ports, while inland collection, delivery, and any additional transport services are excluded unless specifically agreed in the contract. Clearly stating a BSS 1/1 basis helps establish the scope of the carrier's obligations, simplifies freight quotations, and avoids misunderstandings regarding responsibility for inland transportation.
