Basis (BSS)

Also known as: bss, basis, contract basis, basis of agreement

The agreed terms, conditions, or reference point that define how a contract, quotation, freight rate, or transport service is to be interpreted and performed.

Basis (BSS) specifies the assumptions and conditions under which a commercial or transport agreement is made. It may define factors such as the point of delivery, freight terms, quantity, measurement, loading or discharge conditions, or other contractual obligations that determine each party's responsibilities. Clearly stating the basis helps avoid misunderstandings, ensures both parties interpret the agreement consistently, and provides a reference for resolving disputes if they arise.
