BASIC STOCK
Also known as: basic stock, base stock, safety stock
The minimum inventory level maintained to satisfy expected demand during the time required to replenish stock.
Basic stock is the inventory kept on hand to ensure normal operations continue while new supplies are being ordered and delivered. It is calculated to cover expected demand during the replenishment lead time and helps prevent disruptions caused by routine supply delays. Maintaining adequate basic stock reduces the risk of stockouts, improves customer service levels, and supports efficient inventory management without carrying excessive inventory.
