Backlog
Also known as: backlog, order backlog
The accumulation of outstanding orders or pending tasks that have not yet been completed.
Backlog reflects demand exceeding current operational capacity. It may result from supply shortages, labor constraints, or unexpected demand surges. In logistics and manufacturing, backlog levels are monitored as performance indicators. Controlled backlog can indicate strong demand, while excessive backlog signals capacity or process inefficiencies requiring corrective action.
