Backbone

Also known as: backbone network, core network

A central high-capacity network that interconnects subsidiary networks and supports primary data transmission.

A Backbone forms the core communication infrastructure of large IT environments. It carries high volumes of data between distribution centers, offices, cloud platforms, and logistics systems. Reliability and speed are critical, as disruptions impact multiple connected operations. In supply chain environments, backbone networks support real-time tracking, order management, and system integration.
