About (ABT)

Also known as: abt, about, approximately

A commercial and shipping term indicating that a figure is approximate rather than exact.

ABT is used in shipping and commercial documents to show that a quantity, date, weight, dimension, or rate is not fixed and may vary within a reasonable range. It commonly appears in charter parties, bills of lading, cargo descriptions, and freight agreements. The term allows for normal operational variations such as loading tolerances, measurement differences, or scheduling adjustments. By indicating approximation, ABT helps prevent disputes when minor deviations occur that are commercially acceptable and operationally unavoidable.
