Bonded

Also known as: bonded, bonded goods, bonded warehouse, bonded store, customs bonded

The status of imported goods kept under customs control in an approved bonded facility, where import duties and taxes are suspended until the goods are released for local consumption, exported, re-exported, or destroyed under customs supervision.

Bonded goods are stored in approved customs-controlled facilities without the immediate payment of import duties and taxes. This allows importers to defer duty payments until the goods enter the local market, while goods that are re-exported, or destroyed under customs supervision may avoid import duties altogether. The goods must remain under customs control and cannot be sold, used, altered, or removed without authorization. Bonded storage supports cash-flow management, inventory planning, and lawful international trade.
