Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC)
Also known as: vlcc tanker, large crude carrier
A tanker vessel designed to transport crude oil in bulk with a capacity between 50,000 and 250,000 DWT.
VLCCs are a core vessel class in long-haul crude oil trades between major producing and consuming regions. They offer economies of scale but require deepwater ports and specialized terminals. VLCCs are distinct from ULCCs by size and operational range.
