Special Drawing Rights (SDR)
Also known as: special drawing right, sdr currency, imf sdr
An international reserve asset created by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to supplement member countries’ official reserves.
Special Drawing Rights are not a currency but a unit of account based on a basket of major currencies. In shipping and maritime law, SDRs are commonly used to calculate liability limits for cargo claims, charter parties, and international conventions.
