A horseshoe-shaped coupling device on a tractor that connects to a trailer’s kingpin.
The fifth wheel allows articulation between tractor and trailer while supporting a portion of the trailer’s weight. Proper locking and inspection are essential to prevent trailer separation. Wear and lubrication are ongoing maintenance considerations.
