Electronic Logging Device (ELD)

Also known as: eld system, electronic logbook

An electronic system that automatically records a driver’s hours of service.

ELDs replace paper logbooks to improve compliance with hours-of-service regulations. They synchronize with vehicle engines to track driving time accurately. Regulatory authorities mandate ELD use for most commercial motor vehicle operators.
