Bulk Cargo
Also known as: bulk cargo, dry bulk, liquid bulk, bulk goods
Cargo transported in large quantities without individual packaging, loaded directly into a vessel's cargo hold, tank, silo, or other storage unit in its loose, granular, powder, or liquid form.
Bulk cargo consists of homogeneous commodities shipped without individual packaging and is generally classified as either dry bulk or liquid bulk. Dry bulk cargo includes commodities such as coal, grain, iron ore, fertilizers, cement, and salt, while liquid bulk cargo includes crude oil, petroleum products, chemicals, edible oils, LNG, and LPG. Because these commodities are handled in large volumes, they require specialized vessels, terminals, storage facilities, and loading and unloading equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and economical transportation.
