BEFORE BREAKING BULK (BBB)

Also known as: bbb, before breaking bulk, freight prepaid

A freight payment condition requiring all freight and related charges to be paid before cargo discharge or unloading begins at the destination port.

Before Breaking Bulk (BBB) is a shipping term that requires the consignee or its agent to pay all freight charges before the carrier begins discharging the cargo. This condition protects the carrier from the risk of non-payment by ensuring freight revenue is collected before delivery operations commence. BBB is commonly used in charter parties, bills of lading, and general cargo shipments where the carrier wants to minimize financial exposure. Once payment has been confirmed, cargo discharge can proceed in accordance with the vessel's operational schedule.
