Back Order
Also known as: back order, backorder
An order placed for goods that are temporarily unavailable and will be fulfilled once stock is replenished.
Back Orders arise when demand exceeds current inventory levels. They are logged in order management systems and fulfilled in sequence once supply is restored. Persistent backorders may indicate forecasting inaccuracies or supply constraints. Managing them effectively is critical to maintaining service levels and customer satisfaction.
