Assembly

In logistics and supply chain operations, assembly refers to structured value-added activities where individual components are organized, fitted, or integrated to create a finished or semi-finished product. This may occur at manufacturing plants, third-party logistics warehouses, or distribution centers as part of postponement strategies. Assembly activities can include kitting, bundling, labeling, configuration, or light mechanical integration depending on the product complexity. Performing assembly closer to the end market reduces finished goods inventory exposure, improves responsiveness to demand variability, and supports product customization. From a cost and operational standpoint, it allows companies to optimize transport efficiency by moving components in bulk and completing final configuration nearer to the customer.
