Apparel

Also known as: apparel, ship apparel, garment

A term referring either to a vessel’s equipment and fittings or, in logistics, to a single item of clothing transported as cargo.

In maritime usage, apparel refers to a ship’s essential outfit—such as anchors, chains, rigging, lifeboats, and other fixed or required equipment needed for safe operation. In logistics and supply chains, apparel simply means clothing or garments being shipped, stored, or distributed, usually as part of retail or fashion cargo. The meaning is determined by context: ship operations versus cargo handling.
