Amidships

Amidships refers to the middle section of a vessel, positioned approximately halfway between the bow and the stern. This area is commonly used as a reference point in navigation, stability calculations, and vessel design because it represents the ship’s balance point. Cargo stowed amidships generally experiences less vertical and pitching motion compared to forward or aft sections. The term is also used when describing machinery spaces, accommodation blocks, and structural layout in ship plans.
