Actual Gross Weight represents the full measured weight of a shipment as it is presented for transport. It includes the net weight of the cargo itself, the weight of packaging such as crates or pallets, and the weight of lashing, dunnage, or securing materials used to stabilize the cargo. When cargo is containerized, tare weight of the container is also considered separately to determine total container weight. Actual Gross Weight is used for stowage planning, load calculations, and regulatory compliance, including SOLAS Verified Gross Mass requirements. Accurate declaration of actual gross weight is essential for vessel stability, equipment limits, and transport safety.
