Acknowledgement of Receipt

Also known as: acknowledgement of receipt, acknowledgment of receipt, receipt acknowledgment

A formal confirmation that goods, documents, or information have been received by the intended party.

Acknowledgement of Receipt is used in shipping and logistics to confirm that cargo, paperwork, or electronic data has been received. It does not necessarily confirm the condition, accuracy, or completeness of what was received, only that receipt has occurred. The acknowledgement may be issued by a carrier, terminal, warehouse, consignee, or system, depending on the transaction. It is commonly evidenced by a signed document, electronic confirmation, timestamped system message, or delivery record. This acknowledgement is often used to establish a reference point for responsibility, timelines, or subsequent actions such as inspection, processing, or payment.
